Summer Skedul
Meeting @ Cafe Plaid, 10:00 a.m. this Monday
Meeting Tuesday, May 22 in Norman with Adam attending through video conference, time to be determined.
27-1, Site prep for building and camping. Many charrettes idea begings to solidify.
1-3 Camping at Grand Lake, visit the pods o' Peacock, finalize design. Detail concrete slab, stem walls, footings, as appropriate to project.
4 Final site prep, pour concrete late in the day or early Tuesday morning.
From the fifth on we work diligently toward a physical solution.

Summer Construction Meeting
I know everyone has a one track mind right now, but we should start thinking about when we want to meet to discuss the summer construction plans. We need to get together probably next week (and even possibly more than once) to talk about matters of design, construction schedule, and budget.
I realize theses things have been discussed among group members individually to some extent but it is important for the cohesion of the group to have a formal assembly and dialogue about the actions of the collective as a whole within the context of this project and the goals of A-stigma.
What does everyone’s exam/work schedule look like? It is important to find a time to meet as a whole where people will not be distracted or rushed.

briefing: PETRO STOP
All of us seem to be having independent conversations about what is happening with the Petro-Stop now and into the summer. With impending deadlines it is difficult for everyone to gather at one time or place, with that said here is an outline of conversation and recent happenings.
Formal Stuff:
At the conclusion of the semester I think most people will be looking for a break before jumping into the next project and in many cases people are planning on a break, somewhere between a week and ten days. I am thinking sometime around the twenty-third of May would be a good time to gather for construction. Most would like to limit construction to one month. Before construction of course we need to have a direction, perhaps a design. The site model will be completed today and next will be the development of a plaster casting for an eventual wax site model. We need to compile all dimensional documentation of the original structure. I think Nicole, Sofia and Eric gathered some dimensions early on; Harm and I also have some dimensions and a number of sketches noting placement of exterior panels and the structure's general form.
Summer Living Arrangements:
We have permission to camp at the vineyard while working on the petro stop. Nicole and Katherine are volunteering some tents and camp stoves. We have a giant galvaized horse tank we can fill with water for our redneck pool, a good place to chill on hot summer nights. There is a storage trailer where Harm says we can set up a kitchen and nearby it is a logical place for a cowboy shower. A cowboy shower, for those interested, is a closed tank placed at a level above head height. The vessell is generally painted a dark color so it absords the heat of the sun during the day, thus warming the water. Attached to this tank is a valve and hose which act as the shower head. I pledge a shower curtain and there are some large flat rocks at the vinyard to be used as the floor. Ahh yes...the garden. Last week Nicole, Katherine and I planted a garden which we hope to be a source of food while camping. Small game such as Guinnea Fowl are also an acceptable source of food. The garden includes, cucumbers, radishes, tomatos, green bell peppers, green onions, oregano, cilantro, jalapenos, cayenne peppers, lettuce and some other stuff escaping my mind at the moment. There is room to expand if anyone has additional suggestions. In addition to camp stoves I will bring my grill and there is a refrigerator with limited space in the machine shed. Utensils, cast iron skillets, and lawn chairs would be welcome additions.

A specific site is outlined, however, its boundaries are loose. It has a significant but managable change of grade and a number of trees. I have talked with Harm about what the building needs to provide. His primary objective is a place to relax, enjoy the surroundings and drink beer, or wine as the case may be. Eventually it may become a tasting room, This means we need to allow space for a couple of large refrigerators and perhaps a place for the glass jugs and oak barrels used to age the wine.

DECONSTRUCTION final phase
Tomorrow we will start between 9:00 and 10:00, even with the hangovers. If you have a broom bring it, as well as any kind of camera. This will be the final weekend.

DECONSTRUCTION phase II
DISMANTLE: petro-stop
Tomorrow between three and three-thirty I will be at the site, for those interested I will see you there. We have many tools but if you have a cordless drill bring it. There is a chance of intermittent rain showers tomorrow but, it does not appear to be significant so I think we will be okay to work. The Asbestos inspection occured this past Tuesday, it takes ten days from the the day of inspection for the city to issue a demolition permit; the property owners have a demolition contract and are only waiting for the permit to materialize.
Tomorrow evening I will host a pot luck at my house, I'll do the main course, I am thinking fried catfish however still open to suggestions, vegitarians what would work for you?
Saturday morning we will commence once again and see how far we can get. Lets plan on meeting at 9:00.

notice two: DECONSTRUCTION
Sunny and short sleves, no chapping today. Daniel, Sandy, Sofia, myself and Scott's tools were on site this afternoon and considerable progress was made. The roof of the west section is completely removed and much of the ceiling knocked down. Daniel and I were able to remove two large sections of the west parapet wall and the remaining section is not far from being freed. Some progress was also made on the north wing wall, many welds have been cut though a few difficult to locate welds still remain.
Tomorrow I should have a much better feel for the developers demolishion plans and we can move foward accordingly. A couple of people have volunteered to leave studio early Friday with the thought of working through the afternoon and early evening with pot luck dinner to follow at my house. For those able we will reconvene Saturday morning and see how far we can get. Scott has several ideas for lowering the roof top heat pump and Daniel and I have put some thought into how we will remove the roof and structure below. After four o'clock Friday afternoon we can get a generator and only be charged forty dollars for the weekend. I will cover the generator for this weekend but next weekend perhaps the cost can split up among the group.
We also have a number of new photos which will post tomorrow.
We should be very proud of ourselves for an excellent weekend.

notice one: DECONSTRUCTION
Our faces are quite chapped after withstanding a day of hurling wind under a cloudless blue sky. We made a great deal of progress and everyone put forth an incredible effort. I returned to the site this evening to better understand the roof deck and what our next step may be. The roof deck has an occasional weld but, for the most part is held down by a few easy to locate screws. I removed three and a half sheets with very little difficulty and in doing so exposed another major structural member; this one under the cantilever. Harm stopped by and was impressed with our effort and progress. We discussed the mounting debris. At the first of the week he is going to contact Precision Builders to see if they will furnish us a dumpster. We also talked about renting a piece of equipment to help with lowering the structure and heat pump on the roof. More will follow about this.
For those interested I plan to return to the site at one o'clock tomorrow afternoon to finish removing the roof deck and parapet on the west facade. Someone will need to contact Habitat this week about the sink, light fixtures, etc. we have to offer them. Nicole suggested we search for a grant in relation to this project. A little extra money could never hurt. Furthermore, I think we should contact the Norman Transcript and see if we can have them do a story about this project and somehow tie it to architecture in the communtity at large, I also think we could approach Susan Senazey [sic] from Metropolis about this project. When she visited OU a few years ago she had a great deal of enthusiasm for projects of this nature and I think there is potential for her to include a small segment in her magazine about us. Its worth a try.

DECONSTRUCTION
DISMANTLE: Petro-Stop:
For those interested we have full permission to continue dismantling the Petro-Stop. I am unsure of a specific demolition date, however it its imminent. For those interested in pursuing the dismantling effort we will need to meet some evening this week to prepare for at least one long weekend day of manual labor. Prior to any further deconstruction we also need to develop an explicit and accurate set of as-built documents.
